Empathy is our Super Power

You have often read on here that I talk about it is our responsibility for our relationship we have with our dogs. It starts with us. When I mean it starts with us, I mean it does. We pick this dog for our family. Bring it home from the shelter or breeder. We say what food it's going to eat, when it will go outside, how long the walk will be, what toys, games, training, and ultimately what service this dog will provide. With that being said it seems that our relationship can take a one sided look. They are there for us. They are a type of furniture or property that if they don't fit our mold or our lifestyle we can just dispose of. We see the shelters full of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals if they're lucky enough to make it there. Most of the snakes and maybe other reptiles are just set free, or worse just killed. Our society seems to have a dark underbelly when the concern turns to animal welfare. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who view animals as a way to make money. It's big business. Smuggling animals in the country, illegal farming of animals, and the violation of laws that are supposed to protect endangered species. My heart of the years has wept for animals. Not just for mammals although that I am partial to them because I am classified as one myself and I can relate to them more so than with other animals.

With that, I feel a deep sense of mission and responsibility to teach and to bring awareness through training. I've encountered people where they didn't know another way and while respectable to protect and classify the dog is not part of your family when it may become aggressive to some how disassociate yourself from it is sometimes considered noble. When you tell your friends that I had to protect my family. I say can you look at the other side of the coin to a animal who considers you it's family. A animal that was brought into your home that you chose to bring there. One that can't process the processes of right and wrong, comprehend the laws of our nation and ultimately views you as it's family. We tend to need a scapegoat when we don't want to look in the mirror. We will feel sorry for ourselves when a animal lashes out in aggression or wanders to far into civilization, kills cattle, sheep or anything that is farmed for food. We can all agree that it's a persons lively hood to farm animals and raise them but it's also the responsibility of that animal to survive and keep our ecosystem going and growing. To make sure we have an earth to continue to call home. I read a quote the other day that said "Humans are the only species on earth that knowingly destroys it's habitat and calls it progress."

I say empathy is our super power because we have the ability to put ourselves not only in someone else's shoes, but in another animals paws, fins or hoof's. When we can look at things objectively it allows us to understand and feel a certain way. We have emotional intelligence. Not driven by instinct but understanding and the need to love and connect. Empathy allows us to have all of these things. It is our language that we can give that crosses species and allows other species to trust us. When we are truly present with animals and people or bodies change. Our bodies start to inline with who we are as a energy and being. Who I believe we are as a people is empathy. We have and posses the power to nurture and look after the entire earth including our own. It starts with us and is shown to our children, through our actions that end up becoming the lessons. When you think of the actions you do. Be aware of the world around you. Think of how that ripple will go through the pond. Understand who is watching. Learn to grab understanding before allowing our world of anger, guilt, sadness, or uncertainty cloud through. Know that the sun is always shining. It never goes away, only our ability to absorb it.

Have a good day!! Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts as always!
